In the market for drip irrigation tape manufacturing equipment, buyers are often caught in a dilemma. Premium European extrusion brands boast strong technical capabilities, yet drip irrigation tape production is not their core business. Their equipment is designed for European raw material characteristics and operating conditions, featuring high price tags and long delivery lead times, making them poorly suited for medium sized manufacturers in emerging markets. By contrast, conventional domestic equipment offers favourable pricing but generally operates at medium to low production speeds, with limited adaptability to local real world conditions such as high viscosity raw material and recycled materials. What drip tape producers truly require is production lines that run fast, process local raw materials reliably and deliver affordable overall operating costs.
The client is a leading local manufacturer of water saving drip irrigation tapes and supporting agricultural irrigation components in Russia, operating as a domestic producer and net exporter. Its products are sold widely across Middle Asia, Europe and other regions. Driven by topographical, soil and climatic variations across Eurasia, downstream markets demand increasingly diverse specifications and performance for drip irrigation tapes. Traditional single function production equipment can no longer support the client’s business expansion. While consolidating its existing market position, the client aims to scale up production capacity, diversify its product portfolio, win more differentiated orders and enhance competitiveness in overseas markets.
Outdated equipment suffers limited production speeds, backward control systems and few producible product specifications, failing to meet current market demands. The client intended to introduce two high speed production lines capable of fast specification switching, along with supporting water, air and auxiliary systems, to expand output and achieve product diversification. The project faced two major practical obstacles.
First, locally sourced raw materials in Russia feature relatively high viscosity. Standard specification equipment would face elevated operational loads and suffer reduced actual throughput; off the shelf production lines cannot adapt directly to such local material conditions.
Second, the factory trys to optimise workshop layout, reduce on site operators and control long term operational costs.
To meet the client’s high speed production goals, we conducted special performance testing on raw material samples provided by the customer. Data driven analysis defined the matching scheme between raw material properties and equipment, avoiding the common pitfall of deploying standard model machinery only to discover insufficient running capacity after commissioning.
1. Customized Extrusion System: Screw barrel assemblies optimised for high viscosity materials were selected, main motor power was increased, and key electrical components were upgraded. This enables stable high speed operation of the complete line with Russia’s local raw materials without capacity losses. Our production lines maintain stable high throughput with material on which competing equipment cannot reach target speeds.
2. Workshop Layout Optimisation: Based on the customer’s on site workshop conditions, the two production lines adopt forward direction and reverse direction configurations respectively. One single operator can control both units simultaneously. User friendly operation reduces labor force input and long term factory operating expenses.
3. Complete Auxiliary Machine Delivery: Full sets of water, air and auxiliary systems were delivered as an integrated package. This eliminates the customer’s costs and workload from multi supplier procurement and facilitates on site installation, commissioning and rapid production launch.
4. Flexible Production Design: Control systems reserve adjustment margins to support quick switching among multiple drip tape specifications, satisfying demand for diversified orders.
Through custom hardware optimisation and innovative production line layout, this project realised stable operation with Russia’s high viscosity local raw materials for continuous mass production.
The solution unlocked the client’s production capacity and enabled flexible manufacturing of multi specification products. The one operator two units workflow substantially cut labour related operating costs, delivering far lower overall equipment running costs than alternative solutions.
For the customer, the value of this solution extends beyond purchasing two machines. It eliminates reliance on imported raw materials, delivers high speed throughput and lowers labour expenses, driving down the overall manufacturing cost of drip irrigation tapes. Equipped with this production capacity, the client can respond cost effectively to differentiated market demands in Russia, Middle Asia and Europe to consolidate and expand its market share. The drip irrigation tapes manufactured by the client further serve large scale agriculture, greenhouse cultivation, orchard operations and saline alkali land improvement projects in local regions, improving water fertiliser utilisation efficiency for local agriculture.
